Kannada movie Dandu which has completed its 50 days in theatres is ready to enter Telugu filmdom next week. The movie is based on a real life incident in Raichur in the 1990s regarding a criminal lawyer who committed 197 murders. Director Sanjeev Megoti of Apta fame has proven himself yet again as the film garnered a good response from the Kannada audience. Explaining the real incident, director Sanjeev Megoti said, “This story might be familiar to those who live in Raichur. The incidents took place in Raichur from 1970 to 1990. Mare Gowda, who was working as criminal lawyer, committed 197 murders in the span of 20 years and he was not arrested for single case. He started his criminal activity from some personal issue and later turned into a professional killer for 20 years.””I am from Raichur and I have seen some of the incidents involving Mare Gowda. I started studying the Gowda story from my school days and it took many years to complete the story. I met many people who were very close to him at that time and got a detailed account of the events from them,” Sanjeev added.
